Heather is a Professional Engineer with extensive experience in energy and environmental issues, with a focus on energy conservation, demand response and renewable energy technologies. Heather has experience in energy-related project development, permitting and regulatory approvals, and analysis of the feasibility of renewable energy projects in a competitive, regulated environment. She has carried out extensive public and stakeholder consultation and awareness programs in both corporate and non-profit settings, and has experience liaising with government agencies, non-profit group and marginalized peoples. She is experienced in relating energy and environmental matters in a very accessible manner to different audiences via a variety of media.
Heather's recent work with IndEco has included managing the development and implementation of the Energy Drill demand response pilot program in 8 Toronto area schools. This program involves many aspects including technological assessment, behavioural change, education and media outreach. Heather has also been involved with assisting various utilities in formulating detailed conservation and demand management (C&DM) program plans, and analyzing total resource costs of various renewable energy and conservation retrofit technologies.
Heather has an educational background in Biological Engineering with applications in the biomechanics and food industries, as well as several years of product development and management experience in both. More recently, she has furthered her education with studies in Applied Digital Geography and GIS. Prior to working in the consulting field, Heather participated in a multi-faceted Natural Resource Management project in East Timor where she applied skills in GIS, capacity building, environmental awareness education and community consultation in a challenging development setting.
