Bill 21 - The Energy Conservation Responsibility Act, 2005 receives Royal Assent

by: Shona Adamson & Victoria Farmer

Ontario Bill 21- The Energy Conservation Responsibility Act, 2005 received Royal Assent on the 28th of March, 2006. The Act stipulates that the government, by regulation, can require public agencies to prepare an annual energy conservation plan and to prescribe energy conservation targets. The plan must include the following information:

  • a description of the agency's significant energy-consuming technologies and operations
  • a summary of annual energy usage for each technology and operation
  • a description of current and proposed activities and measures to conserve energy by technology and operation and to otherwise reduce the amount of energy that the agency uses
  • a summary of progress and achievements in energy conservation since the previous plan

Although the Energy and Conservation Responsibility Act provides a description of what information needs to be included in energy plans, it does not provide a process for gathering the information or using it to increase energy conservation in municipalities or other public sector organizations.

Help with Bill 21 is close at hand; we at IndEco are experts in energy planning. We deliver and implement energy plans, design and deliver energy conservation programs and monitor and report on progress. We'd be happy to meet with you to discuss how we can assist you in greater depth. To contact us just click here.

We invite you to view an example of our work with the City of Toronto's Energy Efficiency Office (EEO) in assisting them with a Sustainable Energy Business Plan for 2002. Currently IndEco is working with the EEO to provide an updated plan by mid-May 2006.
